Barcelona spend more money on wages than any other club in the world, according to the Sporting Intelligence’s Global Sports Salary Survey of 2018. As per the report, the La Liga giants pay an average of £10,454,259 ($13,755,714) to their first-team squad. It makes Barca the first sports team in history to break the $10m barrier for an average wage bill. Additionally, it was the first time the Catalans topped the list since 2012. Barcelona’s wage rise can be attributed to the likes of Lionel Messi, Gerard Pique, Sergi Roberto, Samuel Umtiti and Sergio Busquets all signing new deals in recent years. Stars such as Philippe Coutinho, Malcom, Arthur Melo and Arturo Vidal have also been added to the payroll. Liverpool, though, are much further down the list. The Reds come in at No 38 with an annual wage bill of £4,862,963, less than half that of tonight’s opponents. Express Sport has broken down the top earners for each club by their weekly wages.
