By all measures, it was a proper party to cap a record season for FC Barcelona. The team arrived at Camp Nou after a majestic parade through the streets of Barcelona that brought together thousands of fans to celebrate the La Liga, Spanish Cup and Champions League titles attained after ten months of competition.
A fabulous intro with children going to bed and dreaming of Barça, videos showing the best goals of the season, and a colourful laser light show, set to music that wowed both the 70,000 attendees assembled at the stadium and the team out on the pitch. One by one, public address announcer Manel Vich presented the members of the staff and the players, with Messi, Sergio, Iniesta and Xavi, the four captains, coming out last. The ceremony lacked only one player — the goalkeeper Claudio Bravo who, on Thursday, will begin the Copa América.
Down on the field, Luis Enrique was the first to address the fans, followed by Xavi, acting as emcee. There were words to suit everyone: from Iniesta and Messi transmitting their satisfaction to the euphoria unleashed by Pique, the excitement of Alves, Pedro’s perfect Catalan and Ter Stegen’s Spanish. Close to midnight, the team ended the celebration with a final victory lap and an impressive fireworks show.

Fiesta grande para poner el punto y final a una temporada para el recuerdo del FC Barcelona. El primer equipo ha celebrado en el Camp Nou, tras recorrer Barcelona en una rúa que ha reunido a miles de barcelonistas, la Liga, Copa y Champions logrados durante los últimos diez meses de competición.
La celebración en el campo ha comenzado con algo de retraso. Pero ya se sabe que lo bueno se hace esperar. A las 22.35 horas se han apagado las luces y ha arrancado una noche de ensueño. Una representación con niños, imágenes con los mejores goles de la temporada y un inmenso espectáculo de luces, música y colores han hecho crecer la expectación de los 70.000 asistentes que se han reunido en el coliseo azulgrana.
Faltaban sólo los grandes protagonistas: los jugadores que han hecho posible el segundo triplete de la historia del FC Barcelona. Uno por uno, el speaker Manel Vich ha ido presentando a miembros del staff, técnicos y jugadores -por orden de dorsales- para acabar gritando los nombres de Messi, Sergio, Iniesta y Xavi, los cuatro capitanes del primer equipo.
Ha habido ovación y griterío para cada uno de los 26 futbolistas presentados -los 23 del primer equipo y Samper, Sandro y Munir, del Barça B- en una ceremonia en la que sólo ha faltado el portero Claudio Bravo, que el jueves iniciará su participación en la Copa América.
Ya sobre el césped, Luis Enrique ha sido el primero en dirigirse a la afición. “Aquí tenéis tres copas como tres soles”, ha arrancado, para a continuación dar paso a un Xavi que, ahora sí, se ha despedido por última vez del Club de su vida. Ha habido palabras para todos los gustos: desde la satisfacción del trabajo hecho que transmitían Iniesta o Messi hasta la euforia desatada de Piqué, pasando por la emoción de Alves, el catalán perfecto de Pedro o el castellano de ter Stegen. No han faltado, tampoco, las continuas interrupciones para cantar aquello de “¡Campeones, campeones!”.
Eran las 23.29 horas cuando finalizaban los parlamentos y arrancaba una última vuelta de honor al Camp Nou. Un espectáculo piromusical impresionante cerraba la fiesta. Una traca final a la altura de un año irrepetible. O eso parecía en 2009.
