It has been a topsy-turvy first half to the season for Barcelona, who dismissed their manager Ernesto Valverde in January following the 3-2 loss to Atletico Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final. Valverde’s replacement, Quique Setien, has been far from convincing since taking over, and fans were less than impressed as they scraped past Ibiza in the Copa del Rey and then lost 2-0 to Valencia in La Liga. It is not clear what provoked the clash, but it is thought their teammates quickly intervened to calm things down, and the pair quickly brushed things off. It is hardly the sort of attention Barcelona will want to be attracting at the moment, however, with Setien looking to make his mark on the team. Following the defeat he said: “It was not an attitude problem. We were not well positioned. We played a lot of passes without any sense to them, just for the sake of playing them. “They are still not understanding things or perhaps we are not explaining them well.”
