I've always dominated with Barcelona, even on their FIFA default settings. What you require to pull that off, is superb defensive play.
Many people in FIFA just rush when they defend, you gotta stay calm and actually try to cut off passing roads/lines.
Done with holding down (LT) on the Xbox, and (L2) on your PS4, this way, you're actually MARKING someone, which increases interceptions.
If an Attacking player out-paces your defender, especialy on winging areas, try to find a shorter route towards him instead of running straight behind him, which is useless… You'd want to run into a location for a cross to be cut out, which is in front of the winger.
Don't try to aim for the ball when you're trying to retrieve it, aim for the winger, pushing a winger can lead to a lot of hick-ups to their parts, and they'll lose position easily, don't be too agressive, I advise pushing with a CB, even tho they're slower most of the time, they physicaly beat the majority of all wingers, so they'll be easily pushed off, leaving for your CB to win the duel, easily.
Another defending greatness is forcing the opposition trough the middle, which you can easily do by marking with your full-backs, for the wingers will struggle to get a cross in, so they'll mostly rely on passing back, and in search for options they will force it trough the middle, most of the times, where your two CBs will most await the attackers with open hearts, one foot on that ball is gonna knock the ball right away from your opposition, leading to your possession on the ball again.
If you're dealing with a skiller, or just a skilled player, I advise stepping backwards a lot, for as most skill moves are to cut in left or right, or either pace right trough you, or over you. Stepping back makes it hard for them to get past the player in your control, as they can't advance past you, which if you stepped inwards, they would be able to. With skilled players defending requires plenty of patience, which can be lame, yes, but, it can save you from plenty of goal chances, headed your way.

Messi in the False 9 role is an absolute joy. Suarez and Messi should be set to "Stay Forward". Suarez should have aggressive interception while Messi should be conservative.

on FIFA 18 my striker was at man utd , good pace excellent finisher . but the "longball counter attack" style of man utd caused the team to give the ball away on blatant stupid passes in attempts to get me the ball.. they would even try to pass it with 2 defenders on me without me calling for the ball
